My Work
I wanted to post a little more about what I do, but I wasn't quite sure which "work" I wanted to put here, so it's divided into three sections: professional work, art work, and hobby "work."
Professional Work
My professional work is youth work, specifically with Girl Scouts. After six summers of camp, I moved into the professional world as a Program Specialist with my local council. One of my focuses is STEM programs, but I also work in volunteer management, parent support, and curriculum development. I keep a separate blog about my experiences in Girl Scouting and at camp.
Some of my favorite things to do include engineering, unplugged programming, and blowing things up in our parking lot. I make a lot of messes and encourage the kids to really experience the science. Working directly with kids is my favorite (sorry parents and volunteers).
Art Work (and Crafts)
My primary medium is drawing with ink. I use a sharpie pen, which I bought a whole box of in college and am faithfully working my way through before I buy anything new. I do a lot of comics and cartoons, but I've dabbled in life drawings, which is what I was trained in. I did go to an arts high school and took drawing in college, so I have a bit of experience. My other medium is photography, something I have a lot of fun with and use as a reason to explore and savor new places.
I also enjoy crafting, especially knitting and sewing, but also paper crafting. I have a scrapbook I am slowly working on, showcasing my college years. I'm only to spring of Sophomore year, so I've got many years to go. It's a labor of love.
Hobby "Work"
Hobby work is primarily my new adventures in cooking. I have been exploring numerous recipes and new foods, from quinoa and parsnips to whole wheat pasta salad and de-boned chicken thighs with shallots. I am currently following the Mediterranean diet (to the best of my ability) as well as trying to cut down on junk food. Not for weight loss, just for health in general. It's also a fun hobbies.
Some of my other hobbies include hiking, going for walks, and reading.
