Meet the Blogger

My name is Steffi and I'm a current full-time Girl Scout staff member and cat person. I started this blog in high school, with the intentions to major in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Utah, then go on to medical school. Things got a little derailed, as life happens, but I did finish a bachelor's in biomed engineering, and then continued on to do a master's degree in Human Development and Social Policy. Never thought I'd get a degree from the Home Ec department, but here we are.

My thesis was on the benefits of nature and recreation, which has become a central theme in my life. After working at camp for six summers (two in Wisconsin at a day camp and four in Utah at an overnight camp), I made the leap to start working for Girl Scouts full time in 2018, shortly after graduation. I work in program, doing lots of things from STEM to outdoors to cookies. There are highs and lows, but overall I enjoy my work and it's satisfying.

In addition to random ramblings, book reviews, and food posts, you may notice a lot of childhood cancer posts on this blog. When I was in middle school, my younger brother was diagnosed with Aveloar Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive soft tissue tumor in his sinus.  It was because of this that my ultimate goal with medical school was to study and treat childhood cancer. And, who knows, maybe some day I will. He's currently a long term survivor and also went into the biosciences.

I a bit of an eclectic personality.  I love all sorts of interesting things: photography, writing, drawing, music, books, and, of course, science.  I'm a lifetime Girl Scout and I take that to heart. I love reading, exploring, being outdoors, and cooking (currently exploring the Mediterranean diet). I'm currently learning how to live life with multiple mental illnesses and a new focus on wellness and self care. Enjoy!
